Van Persie struck in the second minute of injury time to give United the victory, after Wayne Rooney’s first-half brace for the visitors was cancelled out by Yaya Toure and Pablo Zabaleta.

Rooney scored in the 16th and 29th minutes, becoming the youngest player to reach 150 Premier League goals at 27 years and 46 days.

Liverpool staged an impressive fightback to secure a 3-2 win over West Ham at Upton Park on Sunday.

Brendan Rodgers’ side looked in danger after Mark Noble’s penalty and a Steven Gerrard own-goal put the Hammers 2-1 up after Glen Johnson’s early opener.

But Liverpool equalised through Joe Cole before West Ham defender James Collins turned a cross into his own net with 11 minutes remaining.

Everton beat Tottenham 2-1 at Goodison Park to go fourth in the League.

Clint Dempsey struck for Tottenham in the 76th minute, but the equaliser from Steven Pienaar in the 90th minute and Croatia striker Nikica Jelavic’s winner in the second minute of stoppage-time secured the win.

The result lifted Everton above Tottenham on goal difference and ended a run of three successive wins for Andre Villas-Boas’s side.

Chelsea ended a run of seven Premier League games without victory with a 3-1 win against Sunderland. Fernando Torres found the net in the 11th minute, and again from the spot on the stroke of half-time. Juan Mata made it 3-0 early in the second half, while Adam Johnson provided the consolation goal for Sunderland.

Arsenal also returned to their winning ways after three games without victory, beating West Bromwich Albion 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium through a pair of penalties from Mikel Arteta. It was a third straight defeat for fifth-placed West Brom, whose lead over Arsenal has been cut to two points.

Bottom club Queens Park Rangers remain without a win in 16 games – a new Premier League record – after being held to a 2-2 draw at Wigan Athletic.
Southampton clambered out of the relegation zone and up to 15th place after a 61st-minute strike from Jason Puncheon secured a 1-0 win at home to second-bottom Reading.

Hugo Rodallega fired Fulham to their first win in eight matches, sealing a 2-1 victory over Newcastle at Craven Cottage on Monday – the fifth defeat for Alan Pardew’s team in their last six Premier League matches. They remain only four points above the relegation zone.

And the clash at Liberty Stadium between Swansea City and Norwich City was a pulsating affair, the visitors winning 4-3 to end the Swans’ six-game unbeaten run and prolong their own run of games without defeat to nine matches. AFP
