In one of the most comprehensive defeats in recent times, Thalang crushed their opponents scoring a massive 302-4 from their 35 overs with the Village in reply being bowled out for just 61 runs. The match also saw the first century of the season from Thalang opener Justin Thomatos who posted an unbeaten 143 runs.
After winning the toss, Thalang elected to bat and set a large target but perhaps not anticipating beforehand they would amass over 300 runs. Captain and opener, Andrew Macmillan (25) got Thalang off to a flying start until he fell in the 8th over with the score on 47. Village struck back just before the drinks break removing a threatening Simon Wetherell (14). Garry Lane (10) joined Thomatos for a useful 43 run partnership. However, it was the match winning partnership of 176 runs between Paddy Ledeboer (76) and Thomatos which broke the Village back.
During the the lunch break, the Village batsmen must have been hoping for a divine intervention, with a massive 303 runs required at a run rate of almost 9 per over. However, it was not to be when they got off to a poor start losing both Martin Foster and James Firth for ducks and the scoreboard showing no runs but 2 wickets down. Unfortunately for the Village, it did not really get any better with only one of their batsmen, T Donovan (11), reaching double figures. Extras contributed 21 runs of their innings total of 61.
In the previous weeks clash, ICC were winners against Patong after scoring 258-5 with Patong managing 198-9 in reply.
Next Sunday (January 19) sees Thalang trying for two in a row against a determined Patong who will be looking to register their first win of the season. Play starts at 10am.
With Round 2 matches now completed, the league table sees Laguna, ICC and Thalang in a three way tussle.
