Swedish expat, 76, found dead in Phuket house

PHUKET: A 76-year-old Swedish expat was found dead in his home in Thalang on Saturday with police believing the death was caused by health issues.

Capt Eakkasak Kwanwan of the Thalang Police received report at about 10am on Saturday (Oct 7) where it was reported a man had been found dead in his house on Moo 4 Thalang by a friend.

Capt Eakkasak arrived at the scene to find the body of Sten Torbjorn Martin, 76, lying face down on the bed.

A medical team from Thalang hospital checked the body and confirmed there were no wounds or any signs of an attack.

The body of Mr Martin was discovered by his friend Laddawan Chantong, 27. She told police that Mr Martin had called her to buy him some medicine as he was suffering diarrhea and vomiting.

When Ms Laddaval arrived at the house she found him dead on the bed so called police.

There was a business sign found at the house for the Riva Marine Co Ltd company and a woman who police said worked for him, Nitikan Rodratanachai, told officers he had some yachts in Chalong.

She also said that Mr Martin suffered from many congenital diseases but never went to a doctor and preferred to buy medicine from a pharmacy.

Capt Eakkasak said Mr Martin’s body was taken to Thalang Hospital where an autopsy would be preformed to find the true caise of deat.

The Consulate of Sweden in Phuket has been notified of the death.
