Stevens, a 31-year-old American who trains out of Phuket's Tiger Muay Thai, will be taking on Asian MMA legend and current lightweight champion Shinya Aoki.
Stevens, a native of Mansfield, Ohio, is coming off a big submission victory over former UFC fighter Dustin Neace. This is by far the biggest fight of his (11-5-1) career, and he comes into the bout as a heavy underdog against the experienced Aoki (33-6).
Aoki has dropped to featherweight (65 kg) for the fight which will take place at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
“What's going to make the difference in this fight is my heart and my tenacity, I'm going to push the pace and take his soul,” Stevens said in a recent video for the upcoming bout, adding “Shinya Aoki, prepare for a dogfight.”
On the same card, Thai MMA fighter Shannon Wiratchai (2-1) will take on American Mitch Chilson (4-1) in a rematch of their August 2012 fight.
In their last bout, Wiratchai was declared the winner after knocking Chilson out with a head kick. However, the win was turned into a no-contest shortly after and forced the promoter to change their rules on kicks to the head.
Since their last meeting, Chilson has won a fight by TKO, while Wiratchai lost a bout via unanimous decision. Wiratchai trains out of Tiger Muay Thai in Phuket along with Stevens.
