Where to report abuse of wildlife animals?

With the ongoing reports of beach touts using protected animals to gouge money from tourists in public areas, many people are asking who to report such cases to. Here's your answer…

QUESTION

After seeing the story about the baby elephant Nang Chok being taken into custody from a tout at bang Tao Beach this week, I was wondering, if someone wants to report an animal being tied up, a monkey, what number can they call?

ANSWER

The Khao Phra Thaew Non-Hunting Area Office in Thalang is responsible for the welfare of wildlife animals in Phuket and neighbouring provinces.

To report any suspected wildlife abuse, from suspected illegal use of elephants to protected species being exploited, please call me at 089-8737749.

Please feel free to call at any time, but if the case is not an emergency please try to call within normal office hours.

I can speak some basic English, but it would be best to ask a native Thai-speaker to call me on your behalf to make sure I can understand clearly what the report is.
