Thalang Police received a report report of an accident near the Thalang Provincial Electric Authority (PEA) office on Thepkrassatri Rd (southbound) at 11:05pm yesterday (Aug 30).

Capt Natthee Pichitchainitimet of the Thalang Police arrived at the scene together with Srisoonthorn rescue workers to find a silver Volkswagen van in the middle of the road with its front badly damaged and a black Isuzu pickup truck with damage to its left side.

The van driver, named as Mr Sudnai Yommana, 58, from Phang Nga sustained only minor injures. However, the driver of the pickup Mr Somporn Singdampang, 42, from Phuket sustained serious injuries and was immediately taken to Thalang Hospital but was later transferred to Vachira Phuket Hospital.

Mr Sudnai told Capt Nattee, “I was heading to Phuket Town from Phang Nga. When I arrived at the U-turn the black Isuzu pickup, which was travelling north, was taking a U-turn and crashed into my vehicle.”

Police are investigating the incident but are not yet sure if any charges are to be pressed.

Much of the night time accidents are happening because of the poor lightening of roads were taxis and mini-vans routine wise travel with very high speed. Speed that always exceed the adviced speed!
May be it looks funny to ask, but are taxi-, minivan-, bus drivers obligated to have once in a while a eye test/check up?

Surely that quote is reversed? The driver of the van saying the pickup truck crashed into his vehicle when clearly the pictures show that the van crashed into the pickup truck. Best defense is a good offense I guess.

U-turn in time
No wonder no chance to make U-turn in time cars busses of all sizes motorbikes approaches some in hi speed.
Some U-turns are unwieldy unclear it’s hard to see approaching Motorists if there opposite also intending U-turners
Some more traffic lights needed so U-turner have also a chance to make a save U-turn in time.

As long there egoistic reckless traffic rules ignoring motorists on the road
There will be chaos and traffic jams.

Wow, what a impact! Speed!
Was the U-turn legal?
I often see people ignoring the sign..No U-turn.., and just go their own sweet way to make a U-turn.
Not only disturbing the traffic flow, but also create dangerous situations.
Amazing how many drivers just think traffic signs are not ment for them. ( " I do what I want to do")
