he four were arrested late Tuesday on the outskirts of Bangkok with 305,200 methamphetamine tablets and five kilograms (11 pounds) of "ice" worth 30 million baht ($1 million) in total.
"Four policemen and one civilian were charged with trafficking of illicit drugs," Bangkok Metropolitan Police commander Lieutenant General Winai Thongsong told a news conference Wednesday.
Winai said the four police, who denied the charges, had been sacked and handed over to anti-narcotics police for prosecution.
Thailand, along with other countries in the region, has seen a marked increase in seizures of methamphetamine as the world opiate trade declines.
Although drug trafficking can result in the death penalty in Thailand, executions are now rare.
