It is believed that the explosion happened due to a faulty fuel supply line.

Chief of the Hat Nopparat- Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park Worapot Lomlim has confirmed to The Phuket News today (Jan 14) that there was a boat explosion at Viking Cave at 11:10 am.

“There were 31 people on the King Poseidon, 26 Chinese tourists and five Thais.

“A rescue team delivered three of the injured to Vachira Phuket Hospital while others have been sent to Phi Phi Hospital and Krabi Hospital,” he said.

I can confirm that five people have been seriously injured, but no deaths have yet been reported to us,” he added.

Mr Worapot also confirmed that it is currently believed a faulty fuel line and leakage caused the explosion but the investigation is just underway.

"World wide published by victims themselves.About 1 death and all.."Did the fatality publish his own death or did he spoke to the yellow press?? No downgrading of an accident here,as there is still no fatality.

The death report was on Thai news for all those concerned why i stated something to be wrong, I did say the word "apparently" if you would like to re-read! I'm sure all the commentators here have never made a mistake!

World wide published by victims themselves. About 1 death and all the 16 wounded.
This has nothing to do with 'regular posters', just with keeping up with accurate news.

Downgrading accidents for the sake of face saving is a big problem in Thailand.
It works contra productive, and make people, specially tourists, loose trust about thai goverment departments responsible for tourist saf...

False statements in the comment section,as at this point there is no fatality.

Presume that lifting of the exploded plywood boat will happen after all foreign tourists left Thailand.
Than lesser risks for foreign claims. Tourists gone, case closed.
Strategic responsible avoiding thinking.

May be something for the Governor to 'order':
A fire safety training with the Fire brigade in order to get a driver boat man license to be allowed to drive a (not sea worthy) sea going plywood boat.

The Phuket News

Actually: 1 death, 16 wounded, of which 6 very serious.
It went press wise all over the world.

1 dead apparently, engine oil was leaking one person said, not sure how an oil leak would cause an explosion? Apparently a crew hand informed the captain of an oil leak, the captain lifted the hatch and boom! I'm gonna guess, it was a fuel leak and the captain was smoking at the time he went to look. Lets see!

The Phuket News

These cheap plywood boats are not sea worthy.
At sea they are bumping and everything is resonating.
Easily a fuel line can disconnect or tear throughout time.
And as long the thai government allow these boats to use fuel with that flash point, that long fires and explosion will occur.
Just that simple.

Governors words about safety are appreciated, but as we see every time. It stops with wor...
