Sawasdee Cricket league big hit with Phuket kids

CRICKET: Four teams of eager young cricketers met for their games of the Phuket Cricket Group’s (PCG) Sawasdee League at the Alan Cooke Ground (ACG) on Saturday (March 2).

The PCG fielded an A and B team from its Youth Academy, which were joined by teams from HeadStart and Thai Hua schools.

In match 1, Thai Hua (252) played PCG Youth Academy Team A (240). Although the PCG A team were younger than their opposition, it was a closely fought match.

Kian and Luke top-scored for PCG A with an 80 run partnership, with Marcus and Ryan scoring a valuable 67.

Thai Hua were more consistent, with each batting pair averaging over 60 runs each. Ong and Thanawat were the top scorers with 66 runs, followed by Max and Mine with 65.

The pick of the bowlers were Korn for Thai Hua with two wickets and Harry for PCG with one wicket.

In match 2, HeadStart (246) played PCG B (163). The HeadStart team proved strong, with a 75 run partnership between Sandy and Silvana supported by Hugh and Irakly with 61 runs. Kieran and Bonnie top-scored for PCG B team.

In match 3, PCG B (248) defeated PCG A (217). Luke and Marcus top scored for the A team with 74 runs, but the 85 runs from Kian and Bonnie for the PCG B team proved to make the difference.

Laguna Golf Phuket

The pick of the bowlers was Harry for PCG A with two wickets and DJ for PCG B who also bagged two wickets.

In match 4, HeadStart (303) defeated Thai Hua (288). Irakly and Sean top scored for HeadStart with 74, and Ahan and Korn top scored for Thai Hua with 64.

At the end of the matches, some of the kids also got to try out PCG’s new bowling machine which will prove to be a valuable tool in improving their cricketing skills.

Some great young talent was on display with some of the senior league players being very impressed with the skills being displayed.

The next round of the Sawasdee league takes place at 9am on Saturday, March 16, at the ACG in Phuket’s Thalang district.

The PCG Youth Academy training sessions also take place every Saturday morning at the ACG. All children are welcome.
