Phuket's young cricketing talent shines in Sawasdee League

PHUKET: Phuket’s young cricket talent took part in another round of the Phuket Cricket Group’s (PCG) “Sawasdee League” at the ACG last weekend.

Although international school teams were absent, due to their summer vacation, four teams which included representatives from the PCG’s Youth Academy, Baan Sapam and Thai Hua played some closely contested matches.

In game 1, PCG’s Youth Academy team, mainly comprising of youngsters under 10, who have been honing their skills during the past six months, took on the older and more experienced Thai Hua boys, coached by Kru Sombat.

In a closely contested match, youngsters from both teams showcased their skills which can only bode well for the future of cricket which some great displays of bowling, fielding and batting from both teams. Thai Hua, eventually prevailed as winners after a closely contested match.

In game 2, newcomers Baan Sapam, coached by Kru Took, played a more experienced mixed team comprising players from the PCG Youth Academy and Thai Hua. Despite their limited experience, the Baan Sapam youngsters showed great enthusiasm, as evidenced by the smiling faces of the youngsters throughout the course of the match.

This can only benefit them as they develop their skills going forward. The mixed team eventually prevailed.

Game 3 saw the PCG Youth Academy versus Baan Sapam with the PCG team bouncing back with a confidence boosting win.

Game 4 saw Thai Hua take on the mixed team in another closely contested match, with Thai Hua securing their second win to remain undefeated and being crowned as the champion team of the day.

Also evident on display was great sportsmanship from all the youngsters, who congratulated each other at the end of each match.

On hand to present the trophies, shirts and caps to the players was Property Care Services (PCS), Thailand’s largest facilities management service provider (from the UK), the major sponsor of the PCG’s youth development program.

1st place – Thai Hua
2nd place – Mixed team (PCG / Thai Hua)
3rd place – PCG
4th place – Baan Sapam

The next round of the Sawasdee league should see the competition heat up as teams from Headstart, British International and Kajonkiet are expected.
