The minivan, driven by 25-year-old Ocha Unteng, was travelling from Phuket to Ao Nang with five tourists from India.

Approximately 7km away from Ao Nang the driver lost control and the van fell into Nong Thale Lake.

Capt Chokdee Petchduang of Ao Nang Police arrived at the scene at approximately 11am on Sunday to find the van stuck on the banks of the lake with the driver and five passengers waiting nearby having escaped with minor injuries.

The tourists asked not to be taken to hospital as they felt they did not require any treatment and they were taken to their hotel in Ao Nang instead.

The driver, Mr Ocha, said, “I lost control because the road was very wet.”

Police took Mr Ocha to Ao Nang Police Station for questioning.

One witness, Panya Kayankal, 56, told police, “I was cutting plants around there when suddenly the van sped towards me. It came so close, I was very frightened.”

Open question to Governor: Why are utterly incompetent and poorly trained thai drivers allowed on the road with foreign tourists? The Governor promise time after time to foreign Consuls & Ambassadors that safety is a priority and granted! How? Daily disaster happenings with taxis and minivans show that this is not true.

Now is the turn of the indian tourists, as they come here to escape the hot period of time in India, to experience thai transportation.
Ask a minivan driver: "What you do when the road is wet and you drive tourists?" Answer: "I ignore the wet road that can be slippery and I still drive a idiot high speed, as speed is your winner!"

Nothing but luck kept 5 more tourists from going home in boxes because of some utterly incompetent and poorly trained minivan driver. So pathetic that this just keeps happening day after day after day, yet nothing ever changes. Their lack of action renders every Thai public transport official as being complicit in every tourist/passenger injury or death at the hands of the idiot drivers.

" I lost control because the road was very wet". He should have went on to say....I am too stupid and reckless to have slowed down to avoid this from happening. The tourists are very lucky. I'm sure it was a wild ride all the way until he finally lost it. Absolutely no care or consideration for passengers. They think they are cool driving like maniacs.

Bad road, bad road- how dare you get wet. The thought of slowing down clearly didn't enter his temporal lobe.
