Phuket tourist falls out of speeding tuk-tuk

PHUKET: Tourist Police are trying to locate a tourist who fell off a tuk-tuk still moving at speed in Kathu in the early hours of yesterday (Aug 20) in the hopes of gaining more information about the incident and extent of his injuries and to bring charges against the tuk-tuk driver.

“We must find him for further enquiries before searching for the driver of the tuk-tuk for legal proceedings,” Phuket Tourist Police Deputy inspector Capt Ekkachai Siri told The Phuket News today (Aug 21).

Passers-by notified first responders at Kathu Municipality (the “Khao Yai” rescue team) at about 2.30am that a foreigner had been injured after falling out of a moving tuk-tuk at the “Ket Ho intersection” on Wichit Songkram Rd (see map below).

The tuk-tuk continued driving away after the incident, local residents reported.

The incident was also caught on CCTV.

Rescuers arrived at the scene and provided first aid to the man before transporting him to Vachira Phuket Hospital, where he was treated for head injuries under the name “Dabin Yliawylia”, age 37.

However, the man has since been discharged and Tourist Police are unable to locate him,

Capt Ekkachai said that officers have yet to be notified of the extent of the man’s injuries or find and contact any relatives. However, he ordered Tourist Police officers to investigate.

“The actions of the tuk-tuk are an offence under the Land Transport Act. Abandoning a passenger after an incident, and reckless driving causing injury to others,” he said.

We may expect that just a few 'falling out of tuk tuk affairs' reach the press.
Probably it happens more than we know.
Of course, always at late nights, before the unofficial bar closing time of 4-5 AM.
I asked previously: Why are tuk tuks not obligated to have a chain in the opening hole?
Safety first service for sometimes intoxicated tourists, yes?

Poor tuk tuk driver, he didn't notice a tourist was falling out of his tuk tuk, and now ( may be) he get a 500 thb fine.

Perhaps no fine, as tuk tuk driver is already 'punished' by arriving at ordered destination and not earned the fare!

Guess, by now,if tuk tuk driver is clever, he reported already a missing passenger to police.

An Australian tourist on holiday in Phuket has been flown to Bangkok to receive treatment after suffering a serious head injury from falling off the back of a tuk-tuk in Patong last night. This accident happened in July 6. 2012 and he died. And the The accident follows recent complaints from tuk-tuk drivers that to be legal under Ministry of Transport regulations, all tuk-tuks must have access to the rear cab from the side of the vehicle – not the rear back of the vehicle.
A representative of one tuk-tuk co-operative complained that it was too expensive to modify tuk-tuks that were in operation before the regulation was introduced, citing prices as high as 100,000 baht to modify a tuk-tuk to make it legal.
So whay the Tuk Tuk in Phuket still have access from the back of the Tuk Tuk ?
And whay they don`t have doors on the Tuk Tuk whit access from the side ?

December 20. 2015. In Phuket Wan.

PHUKET: A second British woman has died on Phuket's roads in just eight days - this time with the tourist falling from the back of a tuk-tuk at a bend in Kamala.
The unusual tragedy came about 3am as the woman and her male companion returned from an evening in Soi Bangla, Patong, to their resort at Surin beach.
Back again ?
