The Vagabonds made a clean sweep of the competition in their category, without dropping a point in their two group games, the first a 41-0 victory against Prince of Songkla Rugby from Hat Yai, and the second a 34-0 win against Plai Paraya.
In the semi finals the Vagabonds faced a determined Krabi side, but saw them off with a decisive final score of 21-7.
In Sunday’s final match, the Vagabonds played Surat Thani and won easily, 26-0, taking the cup and the Rugby 7s champion crown for Southern Thailand
The Phuket Lomas girls U19s side were just as impressive in their route to the final, beating Krabi in their opening game 17-14, and then Kanchanadit 19-5. In their category final they beat Surat Thani 19-12 to take the girls’ U19s crown.
The Phuket Lomas boys sides were unlucky after winning through to the finals on first day, although both sides finished runners-up in their respective categories.
The Lomas U19 boys won both their opening game, first against Surat Thani (14-7) and then against Krabi (15-5), but lost to Surat in the final 17-7.
The Phuket Lomas U15 boys also won their first game against Surat (17-5) and drew their game against Krabi (12-12), but then lost the final against Krabi by 12-7.
The winning teams from the Southern championships will now go on to the National Rugby 7s Championships in Bangkok over the weekend of August 10-11, in pursuit of the National Rugby 7s title.
