A team from the Perth-based Joondalup Brothers club will visit the island for a week, from July 8 to July 13, for a cultural and sporting experience.
The touring side will play two 15-a-side games against the Phuket Lomas on Tuesday, July 9 and Thursday, July 11, before taking part in a 10-a-side tournament against the Lomas, Krabi and Surat Thani clubs.
The visiting Australian players will also take part in charity work with the Phuket Lomas’ sponsors, the Asia Center Foundation, as well as participate in dragon boat racing and Muay Thai training while on the island.
The Joondalup Brothers RUFC are based in the northern suburbs of Perth in Western Australia. The nucleus of their touring U15 team has been together for a number of years and have recently been joined by some exciting new players.
Lately the squad has enjoyed a high level of success, and took the West Australian U14 minor and major titles in 2012.
Their tour to Phuket has been arranged by coaches Kim “Dafydd” Williams and Ken McDougall, and team manager Hendrik DeBeer, along with several parents whose hard work helps support the club.
