FOOTBALL: Phuket FC fought their way to a 2-0 victory against visiting Krabi FC in the ‘Andaman Derby’ at Surakul Stadium on Wednesday night – a badly needed win after a recent series of underwhelming draws.

Phuket’s impressive French midfielder Geoffrey Doumeng scored first for Phuket early in  the second half at 64 minutes, and Chana Sonwiset secured victory with another goal five minutes from full time.

The win will come as a relief to Islanders’ Head Coach Paniphol Kerdyaem in particular, who drew the ire of angry fans after a disappointing 2-2 draw at home two weeks ago, which was followed by a 3-3 draw away against Trat FC last week.

The win lifts Phuket to fourth spot in the Thai First Division, just one place shy of the promotion berths for the Thai Premier League.

Phuket FC next play away at Gulf Saraburi FC on Sunday, June 2, and face a tough home game against second-place PTT Rayong the week after that.
