PHUKET: For last night’s Thai FA Cup game at Surakul Stadium against TPL’s Ratchaburi Mitrphol FC, Phuket FC sent out a full strength lineup that included Dudu, Doumeng, Nene Bi and Sato, as well as new loan signing Jakkaphong Somboon from Army United.

Six minutes into the game, Eak-artit Somjit tried a shot but the ball curved over the crossbar. Then seven minutes later Ratchaburi’s Attaphong Nuphorm fired in a free kick that missed by inches.

At the half hour mark, former Phuket player Chakrit Ravanprakone curled in a sweetly struck 35-yard freekick that was going in before Phukt goalie Kampon tipped the ball to safety.

Phuket then had another great opportunity in first half extra time, when a Doumeng free kick found Sato in space, but the Japanese defender couldn’t get the ball into the net.

Ratchaburi came out strong in the second half, determined to score. A few minutes in, Kampon crashed into a Ratchaburi player when he came out to save a high ball, and the referee had to stop the game as both players went down.

After play resumed, new addition Jakkaphong passed the ball to Eak-artit who went for a shot but was blocked by a Ratchaburi defender. The ball bounced to Dudu who fired a shot at goal, only to see a Ratchaburi defender clear the ball from the goal line.

A few minutes later it was Jakkaphong who set up another play, headed towards Ratchaburi’s corner flag he crossed the ball into the penalty box. A Ratchaburi defender sliced at the ball, almost scoring an own goal before the goalie cleared the danger with a diving punch.

The first goal of the night finally came on the 69th minute when Kornprom Jaroonphong passed the ball through the Ratchaburi defensive line to Eak-artit, who put on a burst of speed and lobbed the goalie, giving Phuket a 1-0 lead.

Ratchaburi pushed hard for an equaliser, but Phuket set up a strong defense, content to strike on the counterattack.

Then 10 minutes before time, Chana Sonwiset – who had only been sent on a few minutes before, scored the second goal for Phuket.

He put pressure on the Ratchaburi keeper as he received a back pass from a teammate, forcing the goalie to fumble the ball. Chana then knocked in the easy chance, stretching Phuket’s lead to 2-0 and realistically ending any hope Ratchaburi had of winning.

Phuket almost scored a third in extra time when Wutthichai Sooksen passed from the right to Chana, who shot directly at the keeper. The ball bounced back to Wutthichai, but a defender cleared before he could shoot.
