The Phuket FC players were brought onto the stage in pairs wearing their new 2013 design strip, to the sound of loud music and the impassioned cheering of fans.
This was the first time the full squad has been formally presented to the public. The most recent player signings were only finalised days ago, and there are rumours of a few more big names still to come.
Saturday's event was also the formal unveiling of the new Phuket FC home (green and white) and away (red and black) player strips, and the first time the new Phuket FC supporter's shirt has been on sale to fans. Some fans had queued since 11am to buy the new season shirts, and many collected autographs on their shirts in marker pen from the Phuket FC players and coaches.
Phuket FC Chairman Pamuke Atchariyachay, who was joined on stage by key team sponsors and supporters, and his team manager Jakkpob Su-ngan have selected the new squad and coaching staff with the aim of taking the Islanders to the top of their division this year - and to promotion into the Thai Premier League for the 2014 season.
The new-look team features players with a mix of skills and experience, including premium international and Thai players: Luiz Eduardo Purcino from Brazil, South Korean midfielder twins Ya Gin and Boas Chun, Ivorian Nenenibi Tra Sylvestre, Cameroonian Moudourou Moise, Giorgi Tsimakuridze from Georgia, Geoffrey Doumeng from France, and Krissada Sakaew, Sakariya Kolae and Ninuruddin “Spider Ming” Nidehha from football-stong southern Thailand.
This month the team has played two friendly games at Surakul Stadium in Phuket Town, and two more friendlies against visiting Thai league teams are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
