Phuket chef Ronnie loses to the Iron chef

PHUKET: Phuket-based chef Ronnie Macuja “came close, but not close enough” last night when he competed in the TV show cooking competition, Iron Chef Thailand.

The award-winning executive Chef Ronnie brought his two Phuket assistants Ann and Yean from the VSet restaurant to help him take on Western food Chef Pongtawat "Ian" Chalermkittichai in the timed cooking battle that uses surprise ingredients.

The trio were pipped at the post by just one point in the overall scores on the night (69-70), but Chef Ronnie was more than happy with his and his team’s performance, especially considering he only found out who he was to be cooking with on the night.

I specialise in beef, but as the show come out at Christmas time they chose turkey and for me turkey is a very hard meat to cook, it can break and go stringy, but I was very happy and it turned out perfect,” Chef Ronnie says with a smile.
