Nopparat Phrasena, 27, who worked at a local hospital, was dead in the bedroom of their home in tambon Ban Paen when police arrived after the shooting was reported around 1am on this morning (May 18).

She had a bullet hole in her forehead. A .22 gun was near her body, local media reported.

Pongrat Kitsunthorn, a29, wearing a blood-stained shirt, was waiting at the house. He told police he accidentally shot his wife dead while they were playing a game before going to bed.

Police said he was crying and appeared drunk. Mr Pongrat said he had and his wife had been together for three years.

He had been out drinking with friends earlier that night. When he returned home he brought with him a gun he had taken from his grandmother’s house, intending to pay a fun game with his wife.

He mistakenly believed all bullets had already been removed from the pistol when he began playing a game of Russian roulette with her, intending they take turns firing a shot at each other.

He began the game by pointing the gun at her forehead and then pulled the trigger. Totally unexpectedly, it fired and the bullet went into her head. He tried in vain to save her life, and then called police.

Police made him take them to his grandmother’s house, where five .22 bullets were found under a bed.

They were not convinced by his story. A preliminary charge of attempted murder was laid against him, pending further investigation, and he was detained in custody for legal action.

CaptainJack69... no.. first and second degree murders are not relevant in Thailand. If you read the article it's a "holding charge" of attempted murder, that is, when one prepares to kill someone (in this case getting the gun) and having a specific intent to cause death. Intent is lacking here but the investigation is ongoing. It could be that he intended to kill her, but his drunk...

First degree murder plane and simple.

"Attempted"? this was tragically successful.

"Attempted murder"??? She's dead, WTF do you think happens when you point a gun at someone!! This just goes to show Males alcohol and guns do not mix, though that isn't confined to Thais, but nice game, lets point a gun at each other!
I agree with Kurt, ownership of guns should be looked at, even the police can't be trusted!! Leave gun's in the police station at the end...

A very sad story.
It shows how 'believing' and 'not-thinking' can change life in a split second.

It also shows that ownership of guns by private persons should be taken more serious in Thailand.

"A preliminary charge of attempted murder was laid against him"

How is a death attempted murder when the person has actually died?

Not a good bedtime game.
