Col Chalermsak Aksarapien of the Kathu Police was called to the scene, in front of Phuket Villa Kathu, at 2:30am.

Col Chalermsak and fellow officers arrived with rescue workers find Ram Tanyot, 40, from Phetchabun, dead on the road.

His body was about 30 meters from his fallen Ducati Monster 796 motorbike.

Witnesses told police that Mr Ram was driving from Patong eastbound toward Phuket Town when the accident happened, Col Chalermsak said.

“Witness saw him start to go around the curve when his bike slipped and he lost control, which led to him to falling,” Col Chalermsak explained

If the rider had known how to counter steer correctly, he most probably could have made it around the corner without a deadly crash. One cannot corner effectively, or make any sudden sharp turn, avoid any sudden obstacle, or surprise head on collision .... on a big bike, ... if one does not know how to deliberately counter steer. Period.

What circumstances could have been challenged?
It happened at a 50 km/h speed advised route at 02:30 am from Patong to Kathu/Phuket town.

"..his bike slipped.."
No, he was going way too fast for the corner.
Speed kills.

I urge all riders to learn what counter steering is. See Wikipedia. Incredibly, 95% of riders have no idea. It is the correct way to steer a motorbike. Wiki says "counter steering is essential for safe motorcycle riding". The bigger the bike, the more important it becomes. But it applies to mopeds, even bicycles. Read and learn, then try it. It will change and probably save your life.

Thailand really must introduce proper training and licences for bikes bigger than a small scooter. Having ridden bikes of 750cc or larger since I was 18, I have a lot of training and experience myself and I can see the lack of skills and training in the way a lot of bikes are ridden in Thailand. In the wrong hands they are extremely dangerous.
