The Italians finished top of Group D winning all their matches, whereas Mexico go home bottom of the group losing all theirs. Italy took the lead in the 18th minute only for Mexico to reply shortly after half time through Morgan Plata.

This scare lasted all of of one minute as Italy scored two quick fire goals courtesy of Ercolessi and Fortino. Italy were never really troubled and easily dispatched a poor Mexico side.

Argentina finished as runners up in Group D after embarrassing Australia 7-1 at the Nimibutr Stadium. A mistake by Australia’s goalkeeper in the 43rd second gifted the South Americans an early goal.

Australia leveled the scores after 6 minutes through Seeto but that only spurred Argentina on. Two more goals in the first half and four in the second half sealed a comprehensive victory for Argentina, who will go on to play either Serbia, Egypt or Czech Republic on Monday.

As expected, Spain finished top of Group B after beating Morocco 5-1. Six of Spain’s futsal squad play for Barcelona’s futsal team, including star midfielder Torras, which is just as dominant in Futsal as the 11-a-side team is football.

The European Champions finished top of their group level on points with Iran, who beat Panama 4-3 at the Nimibutr Stadium. Both teams went into this match knowing that a victory would guarantee qualification.

Iran took the lead in the fourth minute only for Panama to respond in the 6th minute through Goodridge. Iran then raced into a 3-1 lead but were temporarily pegged back by a Perez pen in the 35th minute. Taheri restored Iran’s two goal cushion in the 38th minute but it was a nerve wracking final few seconds after Alvarado scored just before full time.
