The announcement came from the Director of the Phuket Public Relations Department, Busaba Jaipium, this afternoon (Sept 21).

“Due to good weather conditions the salvage team were able to go out to the site of the sunken Phoenix at 7:30am yesterday (Sept 20) with compressed air to fill the tanks and balloons, some of the tanks have been damaged by strong winds.

“The team worked into the night as the weather conditions were perfect. Divers were able to go to depths of 25-28 metres and filled 200 tanks successfully,” Ms Busaba explained.

“Now 55% of the balloons have been filled with air and next divers will follow up and be able to estimate when the boat will be raised.

As expected not gonna happen anytime soon as the cowboys are running the show but what's the excuse??

"Can't wait until the news of the final salvage is posted on here or why needing a daily update on it" it's up to us to determine if we like updates or not... none of your business.
Besides, it's always nice to have a laugh, and Thailand certainly obliges, especially when they "try" to copy western technigues.

Can't wait until the news of the final salvage is posted on here or why needing a daily update on it?

"Kurt why you dont just go there and find it out by yourself" what is wrong with kurt asking, it is after all, of public interest, as seen by previous news releases.

Wiesel | 24 September 2018 - 09:57:49

Kurt why you dont just go there and find it out by yourself??

Kurt | 23 September 2018 - 13:05:52

Has the Phoenix by now lifted or not? If not, why not?

Timothy | 23 September 2018 - 09:17:35

Yeah..., this is another example of Thai engineering. The rusty oil drums will hit the surface but the boat will still be submerged. How are they going to get it up onto a barge? Maybe they plan to fill the oil drums with helium and fly it back to shore...A crane, or two, are what was needed from the beginning. Not balloons and oil drums.

BenPendejo | 22 September 2018 - 16:57:39

Silly Kurt,"who is responsible" you ask? TiT, nobody is responsible or accountable, and it sounds very unprofessional, like it was planned by a group of high school kids. I am not an expert, but this does not not seem like a major engineering feat, and should have been done long long ago. Maybe there are other reasons for delaying this retrieval...see who comes up with the thickest envel...

Kurt | 22 September 2018 - 10:11:41

The 200 'tanks', are that ex oil drums? Absolutely not professional, if that is the case. They should have brought in a floating crane, lower slings, put around the phoenix, lift it and put it on a pontoon. A 1 day job during a day with quiet seas. It is just a small wreck.
Keep fingers crossed regarding this way of lifting. Who is responsible ?

This is gonna be good...can't wait to see what they're going to do when it gets to the top.
