The organisers, the Asian Cricket Sixes Tour (ACST), are expecting up to eight teams to participate in the event, which will be held at the Karon Stadium on Karon Beach in Phuket.
The game is based on a similar theme to sixes cricket, with each match consisting of five overs per side. Two players from each team are not required to bowl. The action is fast, frenetic and exciting.
ACST Chairman Michael ‘Cat’ Maher is looking forward to offering the competitors an enjoyable and competitive event, but also allowing for some quality time by the sea.
“We’d like to thank the Kata Group for their continued support and to welcome teams from far and wide to continue making friendships through the game of cricket,” said Mr Maher.
Games will begin at each day around lunchtime, with the Finals Day hopefully being held later under the stadium floodlights at Karon.
As well as the matches themselves, competitors and officials will also be attending official tour functions at O’Tools in Karon and the Australia Bar and Grill in Kata.
Admission is free to the cricket and refreshments will be available.
The following week will see the tenth anniversary of the award winning Phuket International Cricket Sixes, which will also feature a beach cricket tournament and a T20 game between an ACST Select XI and the Phuket Cricket Group at the Alan Cooke Ground on the island.
