Beauty: Beauty changes for the new year

So although Thailand doesn’t really have a spring season, the drop in temperature and a slightly chilly breeze gives way to a whole new season in the cosmetics and fashion department.

Make-up collections compete in offering a spectrum of colours and many brands have already launched their new collections, coinciding with the new year and many people’s idea of a fresh start.

Spring makeup tends to look like bronze skin, glossy lips and soft, pastel eyes, although you could argue that’s the description of what most women walking the streets of Thailand look like all year. However, putting aside where we live, the beauty on the runway this season threw out a few surprises in the form of bold smoky shadow, vivid and striking red lips as well as strokes of intense and clever colour.

The most exciting and popular runways around the world featured a collection of bohemian, free-spirited festival girls; edgy biker babes; and low-key fresh-faced beauties. Some of the most exciting looks around feature the following:

Undone Hair: the type of hair you can just wake up with and walk out the door. Loose, beautiful and natural. Although you still need to ensure it’s clean and in good condition, including the colour.

Rock Star Statements: this season we are seeing a lot of striking, sexy eyeshadows. It’s all about making a statement, whether that’s through Givenchy’s style of a sharp colour painted across the eyelid, (and what could be cooler than a gothic wing of coloured paint brushed freehand along the eyes) or vivid black cat eyes. Glam-rock pops of glitter on the eyelids are also a popular hit, and give girls the chance to dig out their 80’s glitter collection again.

Pastel shades are popular in spring collections around the world because they are associated with warmth and youth. Fresh and luminous complexions could be seen on the models walking down the 2015 catwalks, in particular in the Calvin Klein, Chloe and Alexander Wang collections.

Fuchsia, pink pearls and lighters shades give cheeks a fresh-faced and angelic glow. Pastels are described by MAC as poetic colours that usher in a new vitality after the cold winter.

However light shades may not work well for every women, especially those with a darker skin tone and lip colour. It can actually work in the opposite way.

So that’s where the vivid luscious lip colours come in. All the hot brands such as Chanel and Burberry featured it. Bright oranges and fuchsias feature in Chanel’s elegant spring look. The pale, and natural eye colour allow for a more striking lip colour to take the leading role.

Be sure to look out for an array of decorative hairpieces, slick back hair, polished ponytails, and the chic, playful braid. Don’t be afraid to experiment with your bohemian side. This season is all about change.
