Col Chawalit Peachsripea of the Ao Nang Police confirmed to The Phuket News yesterday(Oct 17) that between midday and 1pm on Tuesday he received a report that American tourist Priell Schmalbach fell while rock climbing at Railay Beach, Ao Nang in Krabi.

The report came from people at the scene.

Officers and rescue workers went to the scene to find an unconscious Mr Schmalbach lying on the ground. At the time it was believed that although he was unconscious Mr Schmalbach had only suffered a broken arm.

Mr Schmalbach was initially taken to a medical clinic in Ao Nang, however, it was then discovered that he has sustained serious injuries so was transferred him to Krabi Hospital.

It was later confirmed that Mr Priell was in a coma at the ICU of Krabi Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Krabi Governor Pol Lt Col (Rtd) ML Kitibodee Pravitra visited Krabi Hospital to see Mr Schmalbach and ordered officials and hospital staff to take good care of him and his wife and provide everything the wife might need such as transportation, food and drink.

Jabba Jor, My comment was regarding your attitude, I even posted part of your comment, but hey, you often do NOT understand.
Using your words, I would say climbing cliffs, mountains etc. without safety equipment would be "reckless" and I suggest those that drowned did not drown deliberately, so it was an accident.. however, I digress, once again, it was your attitude "of course let...

read what I said RDD2... Scenarios differ. One is an accident the other recklessness. Therefore, common sense should tell you it cannot be hypocritical...unless of course you don't understand the meaning of hypocritical

Rorri_2 | 23 October 2018 - 06:31:28

" of course let them drown" this from a commenter who recently accused others of being insensitive, towards the victim, family and friends..... hypocrite.

Jor12 | 22 October 2018 - 10:17:43

Absolutely. Scenarios differ. One is an accident the other recklessness. If idiots choose not obey signs; walk through closed off barriers to swim in a raging sea and can see rips, of course let them drown. If that's what they want to do...just let them.

Wow, talking about mental capacity of commenters? What about your comments regarding drowning victims? In an article about a guy in hospital on life support, you stated that "the stupid fools should swim in the hotel pool. The lifeguards should not patrol the beach, let them drown and just patrol to gather the bodies." What lovely, compassionate comments. I'm sure his family was touc...

Good grief, I'd call this malpractice were I in a nation where such incompetence is not routine- "At the time it was believed that although he was unconscious[,] Mr Schmalbach had only suffered a broken arm. .."

Really TPN Admin, at one point not too long ago this forum announced a cessation of the constant ad hominem comments. Let's get back to that, please.

Kurt | 20 October 2018 - 12:14:09

To attention of J-12: When Kurt wrote his comment the American tourist (RIP) was still alive. And the main point of comment ( with sense of humor) was about the visitors. With condolence to family.

Jor12 | 19 October 2018 - 21:31:23

As a patient (since deceased) or relative of the deceased, one would be mortified to read comments critical of any visitor regardless of who they were or what they wearing. But I suppose one would be somewhat relieved once knowing of the mental state and capability of the commentator.

Kurt | 18 October 2018 - 12:34:19

As a patient I would be shocked to be visited by all these admirals and generals in there top heavy decorated uniforms. Always ask myself, what are all these decorations representing? Swimming diploma, driving license, number of years working, transfers, etc? I see security guards with same batons on shirts. No possible war decorations.
